The Street Level Australia Building Arts and Crafts Chapter is a community dedicated to the preservation and advancement of traditional building arts and craftsmanship in Australia. We connect architects, master builders, craftspeople, practitioners, and students who share a passion for enduring quality and timeless design.

You may join the chapter as an architect, drafter, builder, craftsperson, apprentice, student or a practitioner in an adjacent domain.

Our view on planning and development

Street Level advocates for the following principles in architecture and building:
Enduring quality: We believe in the importance of using high-quality, long-lasting materials and employing traditional building techniques that ensure the longevity and resilience of structures.

  • Craftsmanship: We celebrate the skill and artistry of traditional craftspeople and advocate for the transmission of these valuable skills to future generations.

  • Beauty and proportion: We recognise the importance of beauty and proportion in building design, and we strive to create structures that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, even transcendent.

  • Contextual sensitivity: We believe that new construction should be sensitive to the existing built environment and contribute positively to the character of a place.

  • Sustainability: We promote the use of sustainable building practices that respect the environment and conserve resources for future generations.
